Astronomical Observatory
Inaugurated in 2003, the Regional Astronomical Observatory, located in Saint Barthélemy in the municipality of Nus, is open to the public for visits and direct observations.
The facility was specially built to be used even by school groups and non-professional astronomers. In addition to the 810 mm main telescope, the observatory provides astronomy enthusiasts with powerful instruments for observing various celestial bodies, while guided tours and observations are available for the less experienced.
For school groups, the visit is complemented by a heliophysics laboratory, a computer room, an educational trail consisting of two indoor exhibits and a planet trail (a series of illustrative panels about the solar system, placed at distances proportional to the actual distance from the sun). Classes are accompanied by astronomy and educational experts. The destination is ideal for school groups, but an evening of observations of stars, galaxies, nebulae and planets will be able to enthuse and excite even people with no astronomical knowledge.
Since July 11, 2009, the modern planetarium, built next to the nearby hostel, has been in operation, complementing the Observatory's already significant offerings.
Spectacular guided viewings on weekends, 3-4:30-6 pm at a cost of €5.00, while €3.00 for under 12 and over 65.
