Chamois
The commune of Chamois, in Valtournenche, is the only commune in Italy that can only be reached by cable car or on foot. For this reason it is an ideal destination for those seeking a moment of tranquility. The commune is made up of several villages, scattered on the sunny sides of the mountain, which preserve magnificent examples of rural Valdostan architecture. The absence of traffic and the silence of the locality are a panacea for those who shy away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Numerous hikes can be taken in the area. With a short walk (or with the convenient chairlift) you can reach the beautifully located Lake Lod and the nearby picnic area. Those who like to walk can continue along the "great Matterhorn balcony" toward the beautiful village of Cheneil or climb to the sanctuary of Clavalité, located on an extremely scenic ridge.
A flat dirt road, almost entirely in the woods, connects Chamois with La Magdeleine: it is a route suitable for mountain bikes, accessible even to the less trained. Also very nice is the hike leading to Col de Nana and the half-hike trail that connects Chamois to Valtournenche.
At least on the downhill side, it is worth avoiding the cable car and returning to the valley along the winding but fascinating mule track that descends to Buisson flanking some beautiful waterfalls.
