Pink Plateau
The cable car ride up to Plateau Rosa (3,480 m) is a unique opportunity to get a close-up view of the Matterhorn and the glaciers of Monte Rosa. If the day is clear, your gaze sweeps over the highest peaks of the Aosta Valley and Valais. Summer opening from early July.
An etymological note: the name "rose" does not allude, as is commonly believed, to the rosy color of the snows at sunrise and sunset but rather descends from the pre-Latin word "roise," "roja," meaning ice.
At the Little Matterhorn station, 3,883 meters above sea level, 15 meters below the surface of the glacier, an ice cave has been created to create an enchanted place, with games and classical music to highlight original ice sculptures.
One cannot fail to point out that the justifiably renowned ski slopes of the upper Breuil basin offer a desultory spectacle in summer because of the heavy impact of the earthworks operated at high altitude and the presence of imposing ski lifts.
